It may not even be Christmas yet, but many pundits have already declared Manchester City the 2017-18 Premier League champions. While admitting that it is extremely unlikely anybody will catch up to City (United manager Jose Mourinho begs to differ) in the league title race, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his side still has a lot to play for this season.
The Reds are currently in fourth place, on pace to earn the last Champions League qualification slot.
“We have so much to play for. It’s unbelievable how many points you will probably need at the end of the season to get anything,” Klopp said after his side crushed Bournemouth 4-0.
“Everybody is winning up there very often so we need to carry on all the time and stay on track. It feels like a lot of teams are in good shape.”
It’s a six team race for the final three slots, with Manchester United and Chelsea above the men of Jurgen Klopp, and three teams (Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley) within three points of LFC for fourth place.
Klopp was very happy today about the lineup changes he made from the goalless draw with dreadful side West Bromwich Albion in midweek, and the alterations paid off.
His team plans to get festive with holiday cheer tonight.
“It is our Christmas party tonight and we can really enjoy it because this is the first time we have won the match before,” he added.
