Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp has essentially conceded the Premier League title to Manchester City, and this was even before today’s results, which saw both Liverpool and Manchester City emerge victorious.
Of course this was another opportunity for every other team in the league to make up points on City, and that went by the wayside, which is obviously an inherent win for the current table toppers. In the same interview, Klopp also owned up to his side’s major defensive issues this season.
Liverpool thrashed Huddersfield Town A.F.C. who apparently couldn’t keep the momentum from their huge upset over Manchester United going, 3-0. City beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2.
While speaking to French website SFR Sport, Klopp was asked whether a side could take the title playing “attacking, offensive football?”
“Ask Pep Guardiola at Manchester City when does he think,” the German responded.
“At this moment it looks like they are champions in January or something but it’s not about doing it this way or doing it that way. It’s about doing it the right way for your own team. That’s the one thing and we have to respect what the other teams and they do a very good job, too.'”
Asked if Liverpool has a chance to win the title this season,”Not at the moment of course,” he responded.
‘We are too far away from the top of the table. Everyone expects that kind of development as long as you can be champions but when it looks like you can’t be then it’s quite quick (to being) exactly like it was last year.”
Manchester City have a point advantage, and a +10 goal differential advantage on their next closest competitors, Manchester United. Liverpool are 12 points and 28 in goal differential behind Man City. It may not even be Halloween yet, but he has a point that the title race might be decided pretty early this season.
The big six (Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool) are all currently residing in the top six slots.
