Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction, Team News vs Aston Villa

mauricio pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur was the most compelling club on summer transfer window deadline day yesterday, and you knew that heading into manager Mauricio Pochettino’s press conference today that the transfer market was going to be the primary topic.

Speaking ahead of Spurs’ Premier League season opener at home versus Aston Villa tomorrow, Pochettino discussed his side’s deadline day splashing the cash to add Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso.

The allotted interval for signing new players has now passed, but we could still see players on English clubs move abroad before the month ends.

While Poch would not be drawn into a discussion on transfer rumors relating to potentially outgoing players, especially those surrounding Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen (who has already declared his intentions to leave), he did give his take on the Premier League shortening the transfer window in order to have it close before the season begins.

He believes that this format puts the Prem at a disadvantage when compared to the other Euro leagues.

In other Spurs team news, the club announced a five year contract extension for forward Lucas Moura. Looking at the injury and fitness situation for this one, defender Serge Aurier is a doubt due to a hand injury.

Meanwhile Eric Dier (match fitness), Dele Alli (re-occurring hamstring problem), Ben Davies (groin) Sessegnon (thigh) and Victor Wanyama (knee) are all unavailable. Ditto for Juan Foyth and Son , who are suspended.
