Transfer Talk: Brenden Aaronson, Diego Carlos, Ryan Gravenberch, Fraser Forster

The football season in Europe is coming to a close. The Champions League final is just a couple of days away in Paris and that means a lot of clubs have switched their attention to the transfer market. This time of year there are plenty of rumors doing the rounds, and that is what I usually write about in this series. I’ll gauge the likelihood of a rumor and let you know if I think it is a good move. This one is going to be a little different.

With the distraction of the build-up to the Champions League final, saw several big moves completed that slipped by me. So let’s look at some of the biggest moves completed in the transfer market this past week.

Tottenham Giving Antonio Conte a Massive Transfer Window War Chest

According to a statement from Tottenham Hotspur Foootball Club, their corporate parents ENIC Group, owned by 85-year-old British businessman Joe Lewis, will provide a massive financial investment into the sports franchise.

Yesterday saw an announcement that ENIC will be injecting £150 million ($187.64m) into the club to help manager Antonio Conte and his team challenge for trophies next season. The tremendous work that Conte did, to salvage a lost season and secure a return to the UEFA Champions League for next term, are going to be justly rewarded.

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction vs Norwich City

Antonio Conte takes his Spurs side to Carrow Road, knowing a victory will see them in the Champions League next year. Any kind of slip-up is likely to be pounced upon by bitter rivals Arsenal, so three points are a must.

Last time out, Spurs needed just the solitary goal to defeat Burnley. That Harry Kane strike, combined with the 3-0 victory in the North London derby, puts Tottenham in the driving seat for a top four finish. The Lilywhites dominated Norwich’s potential relegation colleagues. It was a much more convincing victory than the 1-0 score line suggests.

Tottenham Team News vs Norwich: Romero, Tanganga, Reguilon, Skipp, Doherty

After a stuttering run-in, Spurs have taken pole position in the top four race. They achieved this on the back of a sensational 3-0 victory over direct rivals Arsenal. They then followed it up with a 1-0 victory over relegation candidate Burnley. The math for Tottenham is simple coming into the last day of the 2021/22 season: win and they will play Champions League football next year. They couldn’t have requested a more favorable opponent as Antonio Conte’s men travel to Carrow Road to face EPL whipping boys Norwich.

Tottenham has lost just one of their last 10 league matches at Carrow Road. That defeat happened in the early days of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign in 2014. In the reverse fixture this season, Tottenham easily disposed of the Canaries in front of their home fans 3-0.

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction vs Burnley FC

Tottenham host Burnley in their last home match of the season this weekend. Antonio Conte’s men will look to keep the pressure on their North London rivals, Arsenal, in fourth place. Spurs currently sit in fifth place, just one point behind the Gunners, and will look to pounce on any slip up their bitter enemies might make. A victory here will temporarily put them in the highly coveted Champions League qualification places.

Spurs have every reason to feel confident coming into this fixture. In their last nine home matches against Burnley, The Lily Whites are undefeated, winning eight and drawing just one.

Tottenham Team News vs Burnley: Romero, Tanganga, Skipp, Doherty, Reguilon

It’s a quick turnaround for Antonio Conte’s men, as they have just two and a half days to prepare for the visit of Burnley. The Clarets head into this match, looking to complete their first league double over Tottenham in almost fifty years.

They won their first contest with Spurs at Turf Moor earlier this season with a 71st-minute header from defender Ben Mee. That victory would prove to be the last for the club under the reign of Sean Dyche. Should Mike Jackson repeat the same trick as his predecessor, Burnley will become just the fourth side to complete a top division league double over an Antonio Conte-managed side. They would join the ranks of Italy’s Juventus and Sampdoria, along with Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction vs Arsenal

One of the fiercest rivalries in the top tier of the Premier League will have its latest chapter this week. Tottenham will play host to bitter rivals Arsenal with a little more than just bragging rights on the line. This match will essentially decide Spurs Champions League hopes. Antonio Conte’s men sit in fifth place, four points behind Arsenal, heading into this one.

Last weekend Spurs picked up a massive result away from home. Against the juggernaut that is Liverpool, Conte’s men did what many sides have gone to Merseyside and failed to do this season, come away with a point. South Korean superstar Heung Min-son opened the scoring to shock the Liverpool home support just before the hour mark.

Tottenham Team News vs Arsenal: Skipp, Tanganga, Doherty, Reguilón

It’s North London derby time as Tottenham hosts Arsenal. This could be the biggest one yet in a season littered with London derbies. Tensions are always high between these two sides, even at the best of times. Ever since 1913, when Arsenal moved from the Manor Ground to Highbury, the hatred between these two clubs has been palpable.

This season’s clash has a little extra spice to it, with both clubs’ top four hopes riding on the outcome of this match. Originally scheduled for January 16th, the Gunners had lobbied the Premier League to reschedule this match. It didn’t seem that strange on the face of it.

Arsenal FC Starting XI Prediction vs Tottenham Hotspur

Arsenal head to fierce North London rivals Tottenham in what could prove to be a season-defining fixture. The Gunners could achieve the ultimate treble with a victory here. First, they would please the fans with a victory, obviously. They would also kill off Spurs Champions League hopes. The cherry on top would the confirmation of their own passage to UEFA’s top tier at the same time.

Arsenal might have won their fourth match on the spin last time out, but they made hard work of it. They seemed to coast after Eddie Nketiah’s brace in the opening ten minutes. When Luke Ayling was sent off with less than thirty minutes played, the result was a foregone conclusion.

Arsenal FC Team News vs Tottenham: Ben White, Thomas Partey, Kieran Tierney

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side travel to face bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a mid-week fixture. And boy oh boy, have we been waiting for this one!?!

The EPL was at the mercy of Sky Sports with rescheduling this fixture. The media giant would not be rushed in picking a new date, and it seems they played their hand well. Not only do they have a potential Champions League qualification playoff fixture on their broadcast schedule, but it is the only fixture being played across the continent. That is because the Europa & Champions League semi-finals have already been completed.

Antonio Conte Responds to Jurgen Klopp’s Verbal Jab

Liverpool FC’s Premier League title hopes may be on the ropes right now, but at least their manager, Jurgen Klopp, is currently involved in not just one, but two verbal sparring sessions with opposing managers. We’ve already covered the back-and-forth with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola here   and here.

Now, on to the tiff with Tottenham Hotspur’s Antonio Conte. After Spurs played Liverpool to a score draw over the weekend, severely damaging the Reds’ title hopes in the process, Klopp said “I don’t like this kind of football” in reference to the Tottenham counter-attacking approach.

Liverpool survived a tough test from Villarreal to advance to the Champions League Final for the third time in five years. With that goal accomplished, the Reds now return their focus to the Premier League.
