Manchester United versus Liverpool- it’s always huge, therefore it’s always emotional. Passions run deep on both sides of the touchline, in the arena, and throughout the world. The two managers, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho even got into it.
Klopp appeared to be the angrier of the two coaches while Mourinho was the one seemingly trying to cool off the contentious exchange.
That’s a bit of a reversal of roles, given how Jurgen Klopp is typically the more happy go lucky of the two, while Mourinho, at least historically, is the guy who aims to instigate conflict and get under his opponent’s skin.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, the first time both meetings ended in a draw since 1987-88, and Jurgen Klopp versus Jose Mourinho was the main event. When asked in the postgame news conference whether there was a serious problem between the pair, Mourinho replied:
“Nah. He thought I was asking for his player to be sent off, I wasn’t. No problem at all.”
“I think the game was correct, I think the players gave everything in an emotional way, professional way. I think the referee managed very well that part of the game, aggression but good. So I think the game was a great publicity for the Premier League all around the world.”
When it was all over Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp slapped hands at Old Trafford, indicating that they resolved their differences.
