The EFL Cup semi-final draws were released minutes ago, and wouldn’t you know it, it’s perfectly conducive to a Manchester United-Liverpool Final.
Funny how that is! Even though these draws are of course totally randomized, all luck, with absolutely no direct human manipulation for self-interested gain, here we go again with a set-up most likely to yield the perfect made for television match-up.
On January 10th, Liverpool takes on Southampton, with Manchester United facing Hull City. The return legs for both EFL Cup semi-final ties will come on January 24th.
Thus, if Liverpool and their cadre of former Saints (Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lalllana and Sadio Mane) oust the St. Mary’s outfit, they’ll most likely square off against their hated rivals Manchester United in the title game.
Both United and Liverpool are heavy favorites to meet in the EFL Cup Final, which will be held on 26 February 2017 at Wembley Stadium. It’s also probably a good thing that the two northwest England rivals meet just once, in the capital, at the national stadium. No one wants to relive the ugliness of the Hillsborough and Munich Air Disaster chants that ensued when the two clashed in the Europa League last season.
Happy EFL Cup Draw Day everybody!
