Tottenham Hotspur lead the all-time series against Newcastle United, having won 12 more of the previous meetings. Spurs have claimed the last four meetings, but the last Toon triumph was extremely memorable. On the final day of the 2015-16 season, Spurs had recently been eliminated from the league title race, by arch-rivals Chelsea, and 5000-1 shot Leicester City claimed the big prize.
They pretty much phoned in the finale, and the 5-1 loss to the Magpies made sure they also missed out on runner-up status, with Arsenal leapfrogging them into second place. Getting surpassed by their north London rivals just made the sting even sharper.
As Spurs host Newcastle on Sunday, the series renews itself once again.
Let’s take a look at who Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino might select in his first team.
Tottenham Hotspur Starting XI Prediction
Lucas Moura Harry Kane Christian Eriksen
Tanguy Ndombele Harry Winks Moussa Sissoko
Danny Rose Jan Vertonghen Toby Alderweireld Kyle Walker-Peters
