The embattled Emre Can scored the game-winner for Liverpool FC today as the Reds beat lowly Burnley 2-1 at home today. Although it sounds weird to say that a win over the lowly Clarets is a big deal, today was actually very meaningful because it breaks from the pattern we’ve seen with Liverpool- that of beating the top six, losing to the lower table.
Many Reds supporters entered Sunday marking this one down as a loss, and that’s understandable given how this season has gone.
Of course, Liverpool still struggled in this one, and were very fortunate to get all three points from this one. Clearly, the Reds were beneficiaries of the Matthew Lowton miss.
Since being brought over by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014, Can has been a bit of a disappointment. While he has had his moments here and there, he certainly has not lived up to the expectations that were put in place when he arrived. Rodgers described Emre Can that summer as:
“young very talented player who I watched last season. Big potential, pace and power, good technique, understands the game very well. Someone who I feel I can improve.”
