Man United send Chicharito to Bayer Leverkusen for £12m

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez wanted first team football. That’s what he kept saying every time Chicharito transfer rumors popped up. Multiple reports (and really I mean multiple reports as just about everybody is reporting this) indicate that Chicharito is headed to Bayer Leverkusen. His move from Manchester United will give the club a cash infusion of £12 million reportedly.

Chicharito must feel pretty confident that he’ll get good first team opportunities with the Bundesliga side. Given that he couldn’t even see the pitch today, with Manager Louis van Gaal opting to use midfielder Marouane Fellaini at forward instead, it can’t get any worse.

It hard to imagine his chances for playing time getting worse than they are right now. It’s pretty clear that Hernandez never won over Van Gaal, or the Dutchman just didn’t believe in his abilities. The 27-year-old Mexican international had been with United since 2010, but spent last season on temporary loan with Real Madrid.

His future at Old Trafford had been in question all summer long, as he reportedly turned down offers to join L.A. Galaxy and Orlando City SC. He’s also been linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion.

Reports indicate Chicharito has signed a three year deal. His departure obviously raises the question of “what will United do about their striker issues?”

Especially given the poor form shown by Wayne Rooney lately. We dealt with that in a subsequent post here at this link.
