Is Monaco youngster Anthony Martial the answer? Well, there are certainly plenty of questions. One of which has just been answered. The French Federation Committee has just released this statement.
A statement read: “Anthony Martial was presented Monday at 11.00 at the gathering of the France team at Clairefontaine. He requested from Didier Deschamps permission to travel to England to sign a contract with Manchester United.
“Given the exceptional circumstances, the coach has acceded to the request of the player. Anthony Martial left Clairefontaine Monday at 12:00. He will return on Tuesday morning.”
It appears that Manchester United made an 11th hour transfer deal for a striker/forward. They had to get one. It was a must. With the sale of Javier Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen last night, the only true forwards left on the roster are Wayne Rooney, the youngster James Wilson and Adnan Januzaj.
Manager Louis van Gaal says Memphis Depay can play striker, but early on it’s clear that Memphis isn’t going to be that top notch scorer they hope he could be any time soon. It’s a very small sample size, but perhaps he’s not ready for this level yet.
Wayne Rooney had three scoring chances today, and he wasn’t able to convert any of them. He’s looked hesitant, and for the first time ever in his United career, Rooney is scoreless in ten straight Premier League matches. Yes, he had a hat trick versus Club Brugge Wednesday night in the Champions League playoff, but Rooney isn’t the captain of Belgium and a top notch Belgian Jupiler Pro League club.
He’s the captain of England and Manchester United. His form this early season has been poor, and that leaves…..well, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao were both let go this summer too, so it leaves….we’ve covered everybody now.
So again you knew United had to get somebody. It appears that it’s Monaco teenage striker Anthony Martial.
