RECOVERY EXPECTED TO TAKE 6-8 WEEKS

Looks like Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane will have trouble lifting his drink for the next six to eight weeks.  The Blackhawks released a statement today announcing that Kane has a fractured left wrist that will require surgery to repair.  The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19.  A full recovery from the injury could take up to two months.  For more on the injury, and the full statement from the Chicago Blackhawks, click after the jump.

While it is not known exactly how the injury occurred, it supposedly happened during offseason training.  The Blackhawks’ team doctors discovered the injury recently, and sent out an official statement this afternoon.  The following is the Blackhawks’ official statement from team physician Dr. Michael Terry:

“Patrick Kane sustained a left wrist injury which came to light recently during his off-season training. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a scaphoid fracture. We anticipate a full recovery in 6-8 weeks and in time for training camp. We do not anticipate any long-term issues.”

The good news for Blackhawks’ fans is that Patrick Kane will be ready to go when the season starts.  While the team says he will be ready for training camp, in all actuality not fully participating in training camp isn’t going to harm a highly skilled player like Kane.  Kane missed nine games last season, but still finished the season averaging a point a game with 27 goals and 46 assists in 73 regular season games.  Kaner also had a goal and five assists in the seven game series against the Vancouver Canucks.

After the team released it’s statement about Kane’s injury, message boards and Twitter all joked that Kane must have hit another cabbie, or perhaps even something grander.  Despite the recent incidents involving the superstar, such as the wild night in a limo, or possibly coming to the rink hungover, or the infamous incident with the cabbie, Kane appears to be focusing more on his physical game instead of spitting game.  Recently, Kane even dropped in on a young kid’s birthday party, where the birthday boy even presented Kane with a game winning puck since his Stanley Cup clinching puck still hasn’t been found.

With the lack of action, or even seasons in other sports, the 2011-12 NHL season can’t get here soon enough.  Fortunately for Patrick Kane, it looks like he’ll be ready to go when it actually does start.
