Robin Lehner made 23 saves in helping lead his Las Vegas Golden Knights to 4-3 win over his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks, in game five of the Western Conference quarterfinals last night. The outcome resulted in the Knights clinching the series four games to one, and thus ending the Blackhawks Stanley Cup playoff run.

NBC Sports Analyst and Chicago Blackhawks club legend Jeremy Roenick has been suspended indefinitely, without pay, for sexual comments made about his co-workers, NHL Analyst and Notre Dame sideline host Kathryn Tappen and Patrick Sharp. Roenick appeared on a Barstool Sports podcast (so obviously he was well aware of what directions the conversations might go), and he ended up making some remarks that have gotten him in major trouble.
Roenick has not officially commented on the suspension, but a NBC spokesperson said the 49-year-old NHL veteran of 20 years has been disciplined “for making inappropriate comments about his co-workers.”

Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews, affectionately known by his fan base as “Captain Serious” or “Tazer,” scored the game winning goal Friday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Toews was one of the three stars of the game in the Blackhawks 3-2 victory, just their second win this season.
Jonathan Toews became the 16th player in NHL history with 13 career OT goals, and he’s the franchise leader in that statistical category. Among players from the 2006 NHL Draft class, Toews trails only Brad Marchand (15) in that department.

In the words of famous fictional Chicagoan Ferris Bueller, “life moves pretty fast.” In the earlier part of this decade, the Chicago Blackhawks were the toast of the town, finally ending their Stanley Cup drought (1961) by winning it all in 2010.
They then followed it up by repeat performances in 2013 and 2015. In the process, they became “America’s team,” hockey wise. Since 2015 though, they haven’t even advanced past the first round of the playoffs. Two first round exits were followed by two failures to even reach the postseason. As such, not many are high on the Hawks’ hopes this season.

An Elgin man, who sports a prominent Chicago Blackhawks logo tattoo on his cheek, tried to evade suburban police by taking an unorthodox route that be believed would lead him to freedom. Spoiler alert- it did not.
Bryant, Torres, who also has a giant #2 tattooed on his neck to honor Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith, attempted to flee police by jumping into the Fox River, swimming through it, and then entering a drainage pipe. Torres, doing his best Richard Kimball impersonation, then entered the sewer system, believing the police wouldn’t know where to find him.

Former Chicago Blackhawks winger Daniel Carcillo gave about as meaningful a response as you’ll ever hear from a professional athlete during Q&A. Carcillo speaks from the heart, and he’s true to the game, just like Honest Hockey’s website. “To have a purpose in life, to be selfless, to put others before myself, helps me to stay happy and healthy,” he said at the Sheraton Grand Chicago at the Go Beyond Challenge, an event benefitting the ICE (Inner-City Education) program.
The 31-year-old former left wing was referencing his Chapter 5 Foundation, a non-profit he created upon retirement in 2015 to help former NHL players suffering from post-concussion syndrome and mental health issues. [Read more…]

On the day that we caught up with former Chicago Blackhawks star Bryan Bickell, healthcare was the transcendent national story overshadowing all other news. With Bickell individually, the very first question on everybody’s mind is of course, “how’s his health?”
It’s actually that way for all of us, every day of our lives, because the old adage, “if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything” is always true no matter what physical shape you are in.
In the case of Bryan Bickell, “how are you doing?” means a lot more than just your typical small, elevator talk.
