Team Czech Republic hockey preview: Too many veterans

Jaromir Jagr

Looking up and down the Team Czech Republic roster reveals plenty of notable players. The problem with those names is that the majority of them are on the back end of their careers. Patrik Elias, Jaromir Jagr, Milan Michalek, Petr Nedved, Tomas Kaberle, Michal Rozsival, and Marek Zidlicky have all seen better days. Players such as Jagr and Elias are still playing at a premium level, but the length of the NHL and travel take their tolls.

Forwards

Looking past the veterans, there is a good group of young forwards who will make noise for the Czechs. David Krejci, Ondrej Palat, Martin Hanzal, and Jakub Voracek have all had success in the NHL and are the future of the Team Czech Republic hockey national team. Expect Krejci and Voracek to play a major role offensively with Hanzal centering the checking line. [Read more…]

nhl lockout

With the nonsense going on between the millionaires and billionaires, who are acting like greedy little children now, I’ve have enough with the National Hockey League.  I’m fed up with everyone involved with possibly ending a second full season of hockey this decade, with either side not giving a damn about anyone other than themselves.  Not the fans, or arena employees, or actual team employees, or the income the leauge brings to struggling cities. duncan keith

The Chicago Blackhawks have been the National Hockey League’s (NHL’s) second hottest team, behind only the scintillatingly-hot Pittsburgh Penguins who have sported a 13-0-1 record recently.  The Blackhawks have blistered their way up the NHL’s Western Conference standings at an 8-1-1 clip, including a recent 5-0-0 run, all of this being done without the services of their captain and leader Jonathan Toews, who has missed the past 14 games with a concussion.

In spite of this devastating loss, the Blackhawks are only one point out of the Western Conference’s 4th position.
