United Injury Updates: Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Victor Lindelof

United will not return to action until January 28, when they’ll take on either Eastleigh or Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup. We’ll learn their opponent later this week, once the FA Cup 3rd round replays are complete. In the meantime, we now take a look at the United injury list, who is still on it, and why.

In this edition, we spotlight Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof; as we just covered Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial in the first part. Ok let’s dive right in.

Mason Mount

Man has this turned out to be a disaster signing. While Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have been huge disappointments (especially considering the money paid for them), Mount has been beyond the pale of flop. At least Hojlund and Onana are healthy and actually playing. Mount wasn’t getting any goal involvements even when fit, and his calf injury has turned out to be way worse than the club led on. Reports have indicated that he could be out until next month.

The former Chelsea midfielder has already been absent for two months and counting.

We’re still waiting for the first player signed in the Erik ten Hag era (summer 2022) to feature this season, as Malacia underwent knee surgery in the summer preseason. Reports indicate that could come in the next match, although even if it does it would be as a back up to Luke Shaw.

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof is recovering from surgery, to repair a groin injury, and the whole process has taken longer than anyone expected. The Swedish center half, who has been in and out of the first team this season, should be back before too long. Here is what Ten Hag said the last time he gave us an update on the situation:

“Victor Lindelof is also on his way back but it will take some weeks and takes time to get back into match fitness.

In other words, he’ll be eased back into the rotation.
