It simply wasn’t enough that Manchester United took a £15 million pound bath on the Angel Di Maria sale to Paris Saint-Germain. Or the fact that PSG exposed all of United’s major weaknesses while drilling them 2-0 in a preseason friendly a few days ago. Nope, not enough as the captain of PSG, Thiago Silva, felt the need to try and have his club inflict more pain on United, by making a ridiculously inaccurate statement.
Asked about Di Maria’s impending arrival, Silva said:
“People now need to respect PSG as one of the big clubs in Europe. Real Madrid and Barcelona are probably on another level, but after that if you join PSG you are you probably taking a step up.”
The comment implies that Manchester United, and all of the English clubs for that matter, are a step down from Paris St-Germain. Strong words; especially for a guy that was rumored to be a transfer target of United’s back in April.
This was obviously just red meat for PSG supporters, and anathema for United fans.
United fans have back, as they should, because indeed it’s a RIDICULOUS statement. Here are some of the funnier responses.
