Marouane Fellaini suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Belgium against Bosnia back in October. Initially, he was ruled out for only a couple of weeks, as the issue was not deemed all that serious. The 30-year-old returned in November, and saw some limited action during four appearances. However, he has since missed the last nine games, and United manager Jose Mourinho has ruled him out for the entire festive period.
Information about his injury has been scarce, but that all changed when the Belgian spoke with Humo, a publication in his native country.
“The inner ligaments were touched. One month later I played again, against Chelsea. But three weeks later, against Brighton, I felt pain again. I decided not to take the risk. I trained again, but not at 100 percent,” Fellaini revealed. “It wasn’t an easy time, but hey, that’s how it works in football.”
Fellaini, who also opened up about current contract negotiations with the club, says he could have broken his leg!
“It could have been worse. Two weeks before Bosnia, there was that attack from Shane Long,” he continued.
“I could have broken my leg. Even more, without that tape around my ankle, I would have broken my leg and that would have put me on the sidelines for six months. Now one week, I only missed the match against CSKA Moscow.”
Fellaini is definitely one of United’s most valuable players, as he’s been absent, the team has fallen further and further behind table toppers and arch-rivals Manchester City.
