Manchester United came, saw and conquered Stockholm in the Europa League Final tonight, finally ending a very long season that saw them alive in four different competitions most of the season, and in three for an overwhelming majority of it.
After finishing sixth in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho’s side would be back in this very same competition next season unless they lifted the trophy. Goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan helped to make that happen!
United won 2-0 over Ajax, claiming their first ever Europa League/UEFA Cup title, and a spot in next year’s UEFA Champions League. Mourinho made the right call, going for the Europa title instead of trying to finish in the Premier League top four as the way back into Champions League.
Even if this didn’t workout today, it still was the right thing to do at the time, given what we knew. That said it was a very solid performance from United, which saw everyone get involved by the very end, including the bench-warmers Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney.
That said, here are some of the better Tweets from United’s UEFA Europa League win tonight.
