It appears the next transfer window will not see any drama for Manchester United and Real Madrid regarding David de Gea. Los Blancos President Florentino Perez has ruled out a move to acquire De Gea in the January transfer window. He also made comments suggesting that he believes De Gea will sign a contract extension with the Red Devils.
Perez said on Spanish radio station Cadena Cope:
“We will certainly not sign De Gea in January.”
When asked why Real Madrid were willing to pay so much for a player who would be available on a free transfer next summer, Perez answered: “They don’t become free. The great players are never free. The ones that arrive for free and that are available are mediocre players.”
If reports in the Daily Mail are to be believed, then Perez’s comments hold weight. The publication is claiming that De Gea’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was at the Carrington training ground today negotiating a contract extension.
