Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho used a very colorful metaphor to describe his side’s very challenging schedule this upcoming month. Mourinho called the October a “poisoned gift.” The Red Devils take on Stoke City October 2nd, befire the long international break.

Then the rough and tumble slate portion begins as they face arch-rival Liverpool away on October 17th.

It’s a quick turnaround to take on old friend Robin van Persie and Fenerbahce on Oct. 20. Then comes a trip to Chelsea the following Sunday before a Manchester derby EFL Cup tie three days later.

“We could have played Liverpool on the Saturday or on the Sunday. We play Liverpool on the Monday, so maybe we don’t have the best conditions,” Mourinho said.

“We have this kind of poisoned gift of playing on a Monday, which creates a very difficult situation, but we want to try to get to the next round.

“Before that we have Stoke. Stoke is another poisoned gift. Stoke is not what the table says — that’s not Stoke’s position.”
