It’s been a rough year for Man United supporters. Regime change did not go smoothly. Moving from someone who’s football excellence got him knighted to a new guy who was clearly in way over his head from day one resulted in the worst finish Manchester United has ever had in the history of the Premier League. To rub further salt in the very deep wounds, the two clubs fighting it out for the title are their most hated of rivals: Liverpool, and their local rivals Manchester City.
Really, no one to side with in that one for Man United fans. But I’m sure a lot of Red Devils took joy in watching others suffer, the notoriously non translatable word of “schadenfreude” (only German has a word like this) as Liverpool suffered an epic collapse that ended their title hopes.
Let’s look at how some Man United supporters, as well as fans of other teams in the Premiership (you know Everton supporters were totally loving this) reacted on Twitter to Crystal Palace storming back from a 3-nil deficit to earn a 3-3 draw with Liverpool. According to Soccer Power Index, LFC entered today’s game with an 18% chance of winning the title.
After today, it feels closer to 0.00018% (it’s actually now 9%) Here’s a video of funny memes that Man United supporters made reveling in the LFC misery.

Manchester City, you can send your Christmas cards to Crystal Palace now. Be sure you give Tony Pulis an extra nice gift basket. But you don’t have to be a supporter of the South London side, or Man United, or Everton to have enjoyed watching this one. It was high drama and non-stop excitement. Even non-football fans were riveted. For those who say “soccer is boring,” they didn’t see this game.
It was anything but boring.
