Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal embraced the old maxim “reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated” today. At his weekly press briefing, a day earlier this time because the match is on Friday instead of the weekend, he called out the media. (Here’s the link to video)
LVG ripped the media who reported that he offered his resignation. Van Gaal sack/resignation watch has been working overdrive this week, as media members from all over the world have been opining on the topic.
The Dutchman called these reports “awful and horrible.”
“I think you make your own stories, then I have to answer your stories, and I’m not doing it. It is awful and horrible that you can write that and then I have to answer the questions of your story,” Van Gaal said hours ago when asked if he had indeed offered Manchester United Executive Vice President Ed Woodard his resignation.
“I am very concerned people are believing what you are writing.”
“This is the third time I have been sacked and I am still sitting here for you. I’m doing it because I am obliged.”
Van Gaal maintains that he still has the support of the board.
“It [the support] is fantastic of course, but that also gives you a lot of pressure. The pressure is much higher than when they [the board] say it’s your last game,” he said.
