The offseason is here for Manchester United, but it’s going to be a very busy summer, and certainly an exciting transfer window at Old Trafford, with a whole lot of topics to discuss.
Actually, it’s been a very eventful summer already, with United adding their first two players of the summer transfer window this week. Today is another active news day, so let’s take a spin through the headlines.
-The Premier League lists of released and retained players are now out, and Marouane Fellaini is as much of a brand name as you’ll find on it. Other big names on the list(s) of those who can now be had on a free transfer include Yaya Toure, Emre Can and Jack Wilshere.
United’s offer for Fellaini remains on the table, but he still looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer. In terms of potential landing spots, the Arsenal chatter that we heard earlier this week still seems to be going strong. Here’s more on that via The Sport Review and Metro.
-If Fellaini does indeed leave, then United will have to continue their midfield overhaul this summer. Michael Carrick is out, while Fred is on his way in. So who’s the next to potentially be added to the middle of the park? Well, the Manchester Evening News reports on a target that the club missed out on.
M.E.N. writes that “Manchester United made a bid for Benfica midfielder Anderson Talisca – according to reports – but lost out to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.”
-Finally, Victor Lindelof didn’t quite live up to the expectations that accompanied his massive price tag during his first season at United, but he did progress as the season went along. The Swede was slow to adjust to life in the Premier League, not finding regular playing time until much later in the season.
Now on his way to the World Cup, Lindelof says he learned a lot from Jose Mourinho this season. Via Independent Online:
“I’ve learned a lot of things, it’s been a good year for me,” Lindelof told Reuters at a Swedish team media day ahead of their final pre-World Cup friendly against Peru in Gothenburg on Saturday.
“I’ve been playing with a lot of good players and I’ve been learning a lot from my coach, Jose Mourinho, so there’s a lot I’ve learned this season.”
