The back pages of Monday’s tabloids claim that Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal has one game (one outlet actually says two) left to they and save his job. So he’s going to be sacked for the holidays right?
Not so fast.
According to the Times: “Louis van Gaal is confident that he retains the immediate backing of his players and Manchester United’s board, despite admitting some fans are starting to lose patience with him.”
ESPN FC sees that report and raises it up a notch, saying that the Iron Tulip even has the support of Mr. “watch this space” himself.
Louis van Gaal believes he still has the backing of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward despite reports that he could only have one game left to save his job as Manchester United manager.
The Dutchman was given a resounding endorsement by the United hierarchy in recent briefings, when he was described as a “genius.”
It seems like we have dueling, contrasting narratives going on here. The actual resolution might not come until after the Boxing Day match against Stoke City. We might even have to wait until after the Chelsea game on the 28th. So I guess we’ll just have to sip our egg nog, and perhaps toast our champagne on New Year’s while we wait for Louis van Gaal closure potentially.
