(UPDATE: Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to be his next job, sources close to the Portuguese manager have told ESPN FC, and representatives have already taken initial steps to try and make it happen.)

Now that The Special One is The Sacked One, it’s time to look at where Jose Mourinho could land next. Yes, he crashed and burned big time this season, but he still has quite the impressive CV. Through two stints at Stamford Bridge, Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, Mourinho has own a lot of trophies and accomplished a great many things.

Jose Mourinho brought Chelsea their first trophy in half a century and although he is now unemployed, he’s still the reigning champion among managers.

(UPDATE: Mourinho will not be taking a sabbatical)

Sure, news of his sacking today broke Twitter and he was trending all day for the wrong reasons, but he still gets paid every handsomely now to do nothing. When he does get back into coaching, it will be at another giant club. Big jobs like that require a big personality and a big ego, and Jose Mourinho certainly fits that bill.

ESPN FC’s Gab Marcotti gave a percentage chance for where Mourinho might manage next.

Paris Saint Germain 45%

Manchester United 30%

Real Madrid 5%

Inter Milan 5%

England 5%

Portugal 5%

Other 5%

These figures are obviously very unscientific. United made a bigh risk/high reward hire in Louis van Gaal. His career arc at Old Trafford is following a path somewhat familiar to his previous gigs. Eventually his methods and leaderships style turns off some of his players. The same could be said about Mourinho; especially today. Both are brash, outspoken and opinionated during their press availabilities, and that often invites negative attention.

Would United really want to go down this road again in Mourinho?

If he can bring in players and win games, of course they would! Winning makes all the personality quirks and baggage that comes with the manager acceptable. Obviously, the Mourinho idea is first contingent on Old Trafford sacking Van Gaal before his contract expires at the end of next season.
