Manchester United Transfer Talk: Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba

The summer transfer window is closed in England, but it remains open in most of Europe, and today brings a couple of United related transfer narratives to report and dissect.

The boss at Borussia Dortmund has made remarks that have potentially opened the door, down the road, for long term United target Jadon Sancho, and it appears Paul Pogba will be staying put this transfer window. So we have two stories to cover on this Wednesday, starting first with the young Englishman.

United have decided to finally employ a definable, coherent transfer strategy and that’s to buy young domestic talent…even if it’s very expensive.

Former Manchester City and current BVB man Jadon Sancho certainly fits the bill, and although he’s not going anywhere any time soon, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke admits the Yellow and Blacks won’t be able to keep the teenager forever.

“There aren’t many 19-year-olds with such a potential,” Watzke said in an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten.

“He is also not a player from the region or one who would have any connection to it.”

“When you have a player like Jadon Sancho, you must reassess the situation every single year. Everything else would not be honest. If a foreign player is not convinced that the club is right for him at the exact time, it just does not make any sense.”

The London native was also strongly targeted by Real Madrid, and you can expect a bidding war to one day erupt between the two European financial heavyweight clubs.

Elsewhere, are you sick of the tedious Paul Pogba “will he or won’t he?” transfer narrative? Well, of course you are. Any sane person who closely follows the sport would be long tired of this saga by now. The good news is that we’re reaching closure.

The passing of the transfer window deadline in England greatly increased the likelihood that he’ll stay, because if left United in a situation that they wouldn’t be able to buy anyone new with all the money they would make off the Frenchman’s sale.

Now comes this report from the Telegraph, which claims that United have designated Pogba as not for sale. So he’ll stay put until January, at least. Given the size of any deal involving the midfielder, and the January window being what it is, he’s probably staying at Old Trafford until next summer.
