Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has promised Liverpool Football Club that there will be no retaliatory attack on their team bus ahead of tonight’s Champions League quarterfinal at the Etihad. Last week, in the tie’s first leg at Anfield, the Man City team bus was savagely attacked by Liverpool supporters as it arrived at Anfield, to the point that City had to find another way home. The bus suffered so much damage that it was rendered unusable.
At least nobody got hurt, which is most important, and Liverpool did apologize for and strongly condemn what transpired, but video and photos of the incident went viral. There is absolutely no place for such brutally classless behavior in the beautiful game, which was caught on tape by a Manchester City coach and posted on his Instagram account.
Guardiola is confident this behavior will not be repeated tonight.
“Since I am here (unruly behavior) has never happened in this stadium,” said Guardiola.
“The police know what they have to do. Opponents arrive in the right way. It’s not going to happen.”
The Telegraph reports that extra stewards and police patrols will be deployed to the venue due to Manchester Police defining the game as a high-risk event.
