Without a doubt, the highlight fixture in the League Cup’s third round is Liverpool hosting Chelsea. The two sides meet tomorrow night as both now commence their 2018-19 domestic cup campaign. The two sides will meet again on Saturday in a Premier League fixture, and the matches will provide a good measuring stick for the Blues, who manager Maurizio Sarri says are a year behind the Reds right now.
Chelsea’s biggest star player Eden Hazard is also fired up for the doubleheader against the Reds, and hopes his team will keep up their strong form. Liverpool have won every match in every competition so far on this young season.
You could have said the same about Chelsea, until Sunday when they battled West Ham United to a goalless draw in a London derby. Chelsea and Liverpool have met 179 times, with Liverpool winning 77, Chelsea 62, and 40 draws. Neither team has any new injuries to report, but Chelsea will likely rest Antonio Rudiger and Pedro, in the hopes of their recovery.
Both sides will rotate their squads for this one, mixing in a lot of bench players in with some first team regulars.
Kick-off: 745 pm (BST), Wednesday Sept 26
