Heading into the headliner fixture of the Premier League weekend, Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Manchester City, Blues boss Maurizio Sarri played some brilliant mind games. Before the crunch clash at Stamford Bridge, Sarri doubled down on statements he made earlier this season in which he claimed his side wasn’t in the same class as the reigning champions.

On Saturday, Chelsea wasn’t just in the same proverbial league as Man City, they were better as they handed the Sky Blues their first defeat of the Premier League season. With that result, City fell below Liverpool and into second place in the standings. Chelsea are now fourth, tied with Arsenal on points, but +5 over the Gunners on goal differential.

Raheem Sterling posted a deep and profound message on his official Instagram account where he hit out not at the Chelsea fan, but at media coverage in general. Sterling posted photos of Daily Mail stories about teammates Tosin Adarabioyo and Phil Foden in order to convey an example of the difference between how white and black players are covered by the media.

Ahead of the Premier League’s biggest fixture of the weekend, Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has made some very interesting remarks about Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, and the type of managers that his fellow Belgian has worked under. Hazard got off to a rip roaring starting this season, but he’s been slowed by injury lately and thus entered a bit of a goal scoring drought.

However, given his all world form at the beginning of the season, it’s only a matter of time until Hazard breaks out of the funk. Kompany says the future is bright for the 27-year-old, who he believes finally has an attacking minded manager.

Manchester City Starting XI Prediction vs Chelsea FC

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri bested Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola in the summer transfer window when the Italian hijacked City’s potentially £50 million deal for Jorginho. Sarri essentially brought his midfielder at Napoli with him when he made the move to Stamford Bridge, and in the process really got one over on the current reigning Premier League champions.

Jorginho has really been the engine that makes them go this season. Now comes the first of two chances (well perhaps there will be another meeting in a domestic cup) in 2018-19 for Man City to get their revenge as they head to west London for the weekend’s headliner fixture.

Chelsea FC Starting XI Prediction vs Manchester City

After getting off to a rip roaring start this season, Chelsea FC have now hit a dry spell. On November 24, Chelsea suffered their first loss in any competition of 2018-19 with a 3-1 Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur. They had been undefeated from the Community Shield up until that point.

Now they have lost their last two league games as they head into what might be the toughest test of the season. Additionally, the Blues have only won two of their last five across all competitions. The key to the scorching start, and then the subsequent drop-off might be Eden Hazard. After racking up seven league goals by October 7, he hasn’t scored since.

Maurizio Sarri Says Chelsea Are Not at Manchester City’s Level

maurizio sarri

Previously this season Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has stated that his club just isn’t in Manchester City’s class, and thus not Premier League title contenders. Tonight, following a 2-1 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sarri doubled down on his belief.

The loss to Wolves on Wednesday dropped the Blues to fourth in the Premier League table after 15 matches, and places them 10 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City. The two sides will meet at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Despite the very disappointing loss today, Sarri believes his side will be mentally ready to take on City.

Chelsea FC Starting XI Prediction vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

chelsea fc

Chelsea FC certainly have cemented their top four contender bonafides this season, but it remains to be seen if they’ll stay in league title contention this term. It’s the first season under new manager Maurizio Sarri, and thus expectations weren’t that sky high coming into the campaign.

Thus far, Sarri has turned in a manager of the year level performance as he has Chelsea far exceeding preseason expectations. Currently sitting third, the Blues are seven points adrift the top of the table, but they’ll face a side in Wolverhampton Wanderers who haven’t won a league game in almost two months. Thus, anything short of all three points in the midweek road clash would be a major disappointment for the Blues.

Chelsea FC vs Wolverhampton Injury, Unavailable Report: Barkley, Neves, Jonny

ross barkley

Chelsea FC travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers for a midweek clash that sees the Blues likely catching Wolves at just the right time. Wolves are winless in their last six league games, having not achieved a victory since October 6 versus Crystal Palace.

That’s pretty astonishing when you consider Wolves also played Manchester City, a side that’s dropped just four points from a possible 42, to a draw in week three. The dreadful stretch of play has dropped Wolves, who looked like an early Europa League qualification candidate, down to 12th.
