Chelsea Team News, Starting XI Prediction vs Valencia (UCL): Kante, Rudiger

Chelsea just put in their best performance of the season by far yesterday, thrashing Wolverhampton Wanderers in the West Midlands, and they did it largely on the strength of their young players. However, the “kids are alright” theme didn’t include their huge $73 million investment, Christian Pulisic who went from the first team to an unused as a substitute.

Perhaps he will see some playing time, or he might even start again when the Blues host Valencia Tuesday night to begin their Champions League campaign. Pulisic could see some action because a.) the squad is still hit by the injury bug a bit and b.) the Blues may need to rotate the side a tad as they will be hosting table topping Liverpool (who are also in UCL action on this night) next weekend.

Chelsea FC Wins Big with Youth, but Christian Pulisic Left Out

Chelsea put in their biggest performance of the young season, and they did it mostly because of their stellar young players. Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori were all heroes as the Blues won 5-2 at Wolverhampton Wanderers, a side that was surprisingly solid last season.

One Chelsea name missing from the list above- their $73 million January signing Christian Pulisic. Yes, the 20-year-old American was not only dropped from the starting 11, he was an unused substitute at the Molineux.

Chelsea vs Wolves Team News: Hudson-Odoi, Kovacic, Kante, Saiss, Doherty

Chelsea got off to a very rough start this season, but there is good news, as the club is getting healthier. Reinforcements are on the way as stellar young winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to feature for the U23 squad in its PL2 match on Friday against Brighton & Hove Albion U23s at Stamford Bridge. CHO is making his way back from the devastating Achilles injury he suffered last spring.

On the comeback trail defender Reece James (ankle) is also expected to play. Of course, that’s the more long term view. In looking at Saturday’s clash at Wolverhampton Wanderers, defender Emerson Palmieri is a minor doubt after sustaining a knock while on international duty with Italy.

Chelsea FC Starting XI Prediction at Wolverhampton Wanderers

The international break came at a great time for both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea FC. On Saturday, we’ll find out which side was better to utilize that time off in what is a very even match on paper.

Chelsea head to the Molineux in 11th place, having taken just five points from their first four, but their opponents are off to an even more disappointing start. Wolves qualified for Europe last season, but here they are in 17th place and winless on the young season. Maybe the rest will recharge them?

Manchester City 1st, Manchester United 4th in Player Roster Expenditures

manchester derby

Reigning back to back Premier League champions Manchester City, who last season became the first side to accomplish an English domestic treble, are also the first football club to exceed €1 billion spent on building their roster of players.

That’s according to the Switzerland based CIES Football Observatory, whose data sets show Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid right behind them, with each club spending north of 900 million Euro. The red side of Manchester comes in fourth, with 750 million euro invested in their current squad. Obviously, this statistic is yet another reminder of how underachieving and underperforming Ed Woodward/Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are.

Chelsea Star Tammy Abraham Says Racist Abuse Made His Mother Cry

Liverpool beat Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup on August 14 in a trophy match that had to be settled with a penalty kick shoot out. The ending in Istanbul came when Blues striker Tammy Abraham missed his spot kick, and the Reds won the shoot out 5-4, after it had finished 2-2 after regulation and extra time.

He was then subjected to horrific racist abuse online, a trend that has seen an alarming surge lately. “I remember speaking to my mum, she was emotional, she was in tears,” the 21-year-old said to CNN International.

Chelsea FC Transfer Talk: Milan Skriniar, Window Ban

The international break provides a perfect opportunity to do some Chelsea FC transfer talk; even despite the ban in place. Sure the window closed across most of Europe only just last weekend, but it’s never too early to look ahead to the January, and even the next summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea have been telling their agents that they should be ready to do business come January. In other words, they feel pretty confident about their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Christian Pulisic Says USA Still Plays with Fear Against Mexico

It was reported yesterday that USA and Chelsea star Christian Pulisic, along with four other teammates, will get an early release from national team camp this international break. The five USMNT members will now return to their clubs earlier than expected, and after that sad sack showing last night against arch-rival Mexico, they probably cannot hit that exit door quickly enough.

The U.S. fell 3-0 (or tres a cero if you will) in an international friendly that was anything but in New Jersey. Tensions ran high last night, and the near brawl between both sides that almost ensued was by far the most interesting portion of the game.

Christian Pulisic Will Reportedly Return to Chelsea After Friendly Tonight

International breaks- a time of very little to no news, and when real news actually does break, it’s almost always bad. By that I mean the only legitimate news that typically emerges from the internationals relates to injuries.

After tonight, those concerns will be alleviated for those following Christian Pulisic and four of his USMNT mates. According to Yahoo, the five players “will return to their clubs” and “miss next Tuesday’s international friendly against Uruguay, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.”

Christian Pulisic Opens Up on First Month at Chelsea FC

Chelsea and United States star Christian Pulisic is known for being soft-spoken and taciturn with the media. He’s sort of like the anti-Zlatan Ibrahimovic, an egomaniacal Swede whose sound bites are bombastic and over-the-top in self-congratulation.

Pulisic, on the other hand, keeps it brief and low key during media opps, but he did open up somewhat during his time in the media mixed zone ahead of tomorrow night’s international friendly against Mexico at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Chelsea FC Star Christian Pulisic Open to Competing in Olympics

The international break is the perfect time to speculate upon who may or may not participate in the next Summer Olympics, and today the question was posed to Chelsea FC and United States star Christian Pulisic.

“I would never completely count that out because it’s a huge honor to play for your country in the Olympics,” the 20-year-old told the Associated Press at a media availability ahead of the U.S. exhibition against their arch-rivals Mexico.

Tottenham Get Tough UCL Draw, Man City Has Very Favorable Group

champions league trophy

Today was the UEFA Champions League group stage draw and as usual, people all over the world have very strong opinions about the results.  As they should, when you see what UEFA presented to the world in Monaco during the UCL Draw on Thursday.

Tottenham Hotspur, as a “reward” for their runners-up appearance last season, have Bayern Munich in their grouping. The holders, Liverpool, earned an easy road, with a group that doesn’t feature any real heavyweights. And Manchester City may have received the most favorable draw of anybody! As for Chelsea, they have one of last year’s semifinalists, Ajax in their bracket.
