Chelsea Team News vs Southampton: Mendy, Chilwell, Werner, Ziyech

Another long international break, which brought only bad news for Chelsea, is now winding down and it’s time to talk about Premier League match days again. The Blues will host Southampton FC on Saturday, in a match where neither side is where they want to be right now.

Chelsea is 7th, with a form guide that shows WLDW while Southampton sit 11th, and their form reads LLWW. Midtable is alright for Saints, but they want to challenge for a Europa League position. For Chelsea, their big summer spending spree means they must compete for the biggest of trophies, and right now.

Christian Pulisic Reflects on First Season at Chelsea FC

The 20/21 season has not yet begun in earnest for Christian Pulisic, as he’s only played a handful of minutes so far. However, the American is fully match fit now, and once we get to the other side of the international break, when Chelsea takes on Southampton on October 17, we should see the left sided attacking midfielder in full bore.

During the restart period, from mid-June until the end of the 2019/20 season, we really saw the full potential of Pulisic. Captain America benefited as much as anyone from the prolonged covid-19 shutdown. The extra time off gave the 22-year-old a genuine chance to fully recover from an abductor injury he suffered on New Year’s Day.

Kepa Arrizabalaga Confident he’ll Turn his Chelsea Career Around

Kepa Arrizabalaga became the most expensive goalkeeper in history when he joined Chelsea for $92.1 million from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018. Having just sold Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid, Stamford Bridge were desperate for a replacement and that greatly inflated the cost of the Spaniard.

As the price inflated, expectations were raised, and anything short of world-class, elite of the elite, would fall short. Kepa has of course played at a level nowhere near reaching that bar, but he remains confident he can still turn it around and find success at Chelsea.

Chelsea FC 2020 Summer Transfer Window Report Card

“It’s good to be king,” the old epigram goes. It’s also good to be a Russian oligarch worth $13 billion, making him the richest person in Israel, top ten wealthiest in Russia and the 113th highest net worth individual on the planet.

That’s the stats on Chelsea FC Owner Roman Abramovich, at least according to the latest Forbes rankings. Thus, spending north of 250 million Euro on his soccer team is like us spending the change that we find in the cushions of our couches.

Champions League Draws: Man United and PSG in Same Grouping

UEFA have announced the Champions League groupings, only minutes ago, and there are some very interesting draws here to say the least. Manchester United ended up with a group that includes Paris Saint-Germain, and that means we’ll see a rematch of the very memorable 2018-19 quarter-final tie, in which United went against all odds and flipped the script on PSG.

The road leg triumph in that tie, which stands as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s finest moment as United manager, probably clinched him the gig on a full time basis. (He was still interim manager at that point)

Chelsea FC Starting XI Prediction vs Crystal Palace

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard can already feel the heat turning up a bit as Chelsea have only taken four points from their first three Premier League games. And if you watched last week’s disastrous draw with West Bromwich Albion, you’ll likely agree that they were lucky to even get a point from the affair.

A slow start to the season, plus already getting bounced from one cup competition, after the biggest summer spending spree in club history, is just plain unacceptable. Given what we know about Roman Abramovich’s itchy sacking trigger finger, and well, Lampard needs to right the ship sooner rather than later.
