Will Chelsea midfield maestro Moises Caicedo face his former club, Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday? It could go either way, according to manager Xabi Alonso. Caicedo, dealing with an undisclosed injury issue, is in that 50/50 or “late fitness test” category for this weekend.

“He is hopefully training (today) and we are hopeful that he can be involved (Brighton). But we need to check. No decision has been made.”

Elsewhere Jordan Henderson is nearing his Chelsea debut, having recovered from that infamous World Cup wrist injury. But it is probably not going to happen on Sunday.

Said Alonso: “[Waiting for him to be given] the green light to play soon.” Meanwhile Marco Palestra is likely to miss out again, over the weekend, as he continues recovering from his undisclosed issue.

And then finally, Wesley Fofana is in line to make his 2026-27 season debut on Sunday, having served his suspension that carried over from last season.

After being banned for opening day, he was eligible for the League Cup win over Luton Town, but he was not selected to feature.
