There are two gigs (obvious pun intended, sorry in advance) that Manchester United club legend Ryan Giggs is interested in- Everton and Leicester City. Craig Shakespeare was sacked by Leicester last week and Everton parted ways with Ronald Koeman today, creating two vacancies.
Giggs was linked to two jobs last season, Swansea City and Southampton, but neither came to fruition. Despite Giggs’ status as a football legend in Wales, the Swans decided to go in a different direction. The association with Southampton seemed to be more smoke than fire, as it doesn’t really seems like he was much of a serious contender.
The only managerial experience Giggs has accrued came as an interim, late in the 2013-14 season, when he led the club for a few games in place of the sacked David Moyes. He was also an assistant under Louis van Gaal during the dutchman’s short tenure as United boss.
The Welshman confirmed his interest in leading the Foxes or the Toffees to Sky today.
“I think you look at those two teams, Leicester being champions two seasons ago, Everton being a fantastic club with a fantastic history, for me these are clubs I would be interested in,” Giggs told Sky Sports on Monday.
“However, there are a lot of coaches out there who would be interested in those positions.”
“I’ve said all along that I’d be open to clubs which share the ambitions of myself. I want to improve clubs and improve players, to enjoy working for them and for players to enjoy the challenge.”
“There are clubs in the Premier League which would be good jobs but also in the Championship and League One. It’s more about the philosophy for me than the stature of the club.”
