The Van Gaal Man United era keeps deteriorating further

Yet another new low today for Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, but it seems like we keep saying that after every new loss. One weekend it hits rock bottom, then that bottom drops out the next week and a new floor is found. We’ll see if Van Gaal is still around to take on Chelsea on Monday, and then perhaps the nadir will sink even lower.

Today, Louis van Gaal dropped a hint that he may step down. Here’s more on that.

In the past couple months we’ve seen the Red Devils under Van Gaal go from getting results, but in a boring fashion to sort of getting results sometimes but still only in a very boring fashion to no results and being boring to now just plain bad across the board.

Van Gaal made some comments today that implies he may have lost the dressing room. (Here’s more on that) Whether or not that’s true, it would certainly spell the end for his regime at Old Trafford.

The pundits are all out in full force today to chronicle the Dutchman’s demise. Andy Mitten at ESPN FC wrote a great piece entitled “Louis van Gaal at lowest ebb” Here’s the link, with a snippet below:

The journalists writing the stories that will dominate the headlines are not the decision-makers who’ll decide the Dutchman’s future and United are adamant they don’t want to become a sacking club, but England’s 20-time champions have gone seven games without victory for the first time since December 1989.

FOX Sports has an insightful slide show chronicling where it all went wrong. It spotlights this season’s critical lowlights.

If Van Gaal does leave United, whether he’s forced out, or by his own power, then the talk begins about potentially replacing him with Jose Mourinho. Here’s the latest on that.

The Telegraph claims that Mourinho would prospectively make about £6 million with the Red Devils, which is a pretty big pay cut. The publication indicates that Chelsea might have to pay £1.5 million of that wage disparity.

As it stands right now, Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, says that there is no agreement, of any kind, in place between his client and Manchester United.
