Now for your daily update on the job status of Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford. Actually, there’s all kinds of stories flying around right now surrounding this situation, but finding the signal amidst the chaotic noise we obviously know that he’ll be managing the team come Boxing Day when United visit Stoke City.
Barring a colossal disaster, he’ll be in charge when the Red Devils host Chelsea on December 28th. Yes, even if they lose and lose badly to the Potters, the Dutchman should still be there to take on the Blues.
The club has already beefed up security around the Dutchman for that home match, so like it or not, he’s here until 2016. Van Gaal does have an ultimatum though- two games left to try and save his job.

Van Gaal must beat Stoke and Chelsea in order save his job. Here’s the latest on the ultimatum given to him by the United board. Sources indicate to ESPN FC that
Van Gaal was told before Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat against Norwich City that he had to get at least two wins from the next three games, with United due to play Stoke City away on the Dec. 26 and Chelsea at home on Dec. 28,
Van Gaal temporarily remains in the job, however, because of the majority of the hierarchy feel it would be against United club tradition not to stick to their word and give him the chance to win the next two games.
ESPN FC was told that United also feel it is important to do that because of the good relationship with Van Gaal, and because some are mindful of the likelihood that this is his last job in football and do not want it to end in unnecessarily sour or unfair fashion.
Van Gaal could yet stay for longer, then, if he wins those two games.
In other words, Van Gaal will have the chance to settle the situation and earn the right to retain his place on the pitch, with his team. In the meantime here are more back pages highlighting the Van Gaal drama. This morning, Van Gaal gave a very hostile press conference where he stormed out on reporters after just five minutes. (here’s more on that)
Here’s the video and transcript of that media session.
