Louis van Gaal admits he fears getting the sack

Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal admits that he’s worried about his job security. Following United’s dreadful 2-1 loss to Norwich City today, Van Gaal told the media:

“Yes of course I am worried about that because I know that belief in a manager is very important, and when you lose the games you play then the belief in a manager shall decrease. That is happening now. I cannot close my eyes to that.”

This latest setback means that United are now winless in their last six. They’ve fallen out of the top four in the league, and have already been eliminated from Champions League and League Cup.

Asked if he still believes in himself,  Van Gaal said: “Yes, I think so. I don’t think a change of management shall bring direct success — but that is what I believe. Maybe that is not so interesting.”

However, he did admit that United are currently in trouble and that this current stretch is one of the lowest points of his career.

“I am always evaluating myself because I think that is an aspect of the philosophy I have. But the philosophy is also making an evolution — I am not the same coach I was 25 years ago.

“So, you are always evaluating and of course that philosophy is very important for me. Because of that I am — or maybe I have to say now, was — a very successful manager.”

The United community griped about all the goalless draws (as they should), but was able to tolerate Van Gaal’s dull, tedious style this season when it still yielded results. Now that this dull, tedious style isn’t yielding results, there’s full blown backlash.

We have already heard plenty of talk about the idea of Jose Mourinho coming to Old Trafford as his potential replacement. Reportedly, there is mutual interest in that situation.
