If you have a website with really good search engine optimization for Anthony Martial, then today was your day! Because the world spent a lot of time searching online to figure out who he is. The French Football Federation has confirmed that Anthony Martial is on his way to Manchester United.
We also know that the value of the Monaco striker has skyrocketed. In June 2013, Monaco paid around £3.5 million to acquire Martial from Lyon. So in two years his value has increased ten fold. WOW!
He may be really good, probably not right away, as he’s just 19, but over time he might prove to be a great investment. However, spending £35 million on deadline day, on a guy who only has 13 professional goals in his career, spent by a team that has serious issues scoring and has unloaded many of their strikers, put it all together and it just embodies the term “panic buy.”
What was wrong with Pedro? United could have gotten him for £15 million less, and he’s already established himself.
Ok, so Martial’s stats aren’t mind-blowing, but he is one of France’s most promising young players, and many scouts are high on him. He’s also drawn a lot of comparisons to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Also, as obscure as Anthony Martial may be right now, few of us had heard of Matteo Darmian when he was purchased, and Darmian has looked like a great pick-up thus far.
