Sir Bobby Charlton is the Manchester United legend of Manchester United legends. He’s regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, and an essential member of the England national team which won the 1966 World Cup and Ballon d’Or.

He played almost all of his club football at United, where he became renowned for his attacking instincts and passing abilities from midfield and his ferocious long-range shot.  Yesterday, he gave a ringing endorsement, or “vote of confidence” to embattled Manager David Moyes.

“It doesn’t mean we are going to change everything. I’m absolutely certain that we picked the right man,” Sir Bobby Charlton told BBC Sport.

Moyes has been incessantly criticized by both fans and media all season long. And it’s certainly easy to understand why. The only thing United has left to play for is Champions League. Their only way to stay in the European tournament next year is to win it this year.

Sir Bobby Charlton still believes that winning the Manchester Derby today could be a big turning point. A victory over local rivals Man City today could be a huge momentum shifter.

He continued: “We are trying our best to make sure that we can beat them. If we can, it will be a tremendous stride because we’ve had a bit of criticism leading up to this, but I never doubt Manchester United.”
