The Rose Bowl just celebrated the 100th anniversary of the “Granddaddy of them all” and also hosted the final BCS National Title game before the new championship format arrives. In addition to the 100th Rose Bowl game.
Now it will host an international friendly between the team with which David Beckham built his legacy and the team with which he closed his playing career.
Manchester United have announced another match on their 2014 summer tour in the United States with a friendly against LA Galaxy, to be played at the Rose Bowl Stadium on July 23. Kick-off time is 7:30pm PT.
“Playing LA Galaxy at the world-famous Rose Bowl Stadium will be an important part of the team’s preparations for the 2014/15 football season. The Club has been visiting Los Angeles since 1950 and this match provides a great opportunity for us to engage with our fans in this region,” said Manchester United Group Managing Director Richard Arnold.
The Rose Bowl Stadium was host to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic men’s soccer final, the 1994 FIFA World Cup final, the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup final, 2002 and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup finals as well as a 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup group stage doubleheader. It is the only stadium in the world to have hosted both a men’s and women’s World Cup final, plus an Olympic gold medal match.
