Marcus Rashford Might Play for England U21s this Month

MARCUS RASHFORD

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford surpassed his 50th appearance for the club on February 19th, which is really substantial when you realize that he’s only 19. Just about a year ago, he arrived with authority for Old Trafford bagging a double in both his Premier League first team debut (against Arsenal) and his international debut (in Europa League) with the Red Devils.

He also scored in his first Manchester derby and League Cup matches. He also made his presence felt for country in addition to club, scoring in his England debut this past May; thus becoming the youngest English player to score in his first senior international game.

He made Roy Hodgson’s European Championships squad, but he’s still struggling to find his place with Three Lions. Since playing time is not guaranteed with the senior side, he may actually play with the U21s later this month.

At least that’s the narrative according to ESPN FC:

England manager Gareth Southgate is considering allowing Marcus Rashford to be selected for the under-21 friendlies against Germany and Denmark this month, sources have told ESPN FC.

The games come ahead of the Manchester United forward’s potential involvement in the European U21 Championships in Poland this summer.

Southgate is assessing options for the senior team before naming his squad for the forthcoming friendly against Germany in Dortmund and the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley.

Given how dull, tedious and just, let’s face it, flat out boring international breaks almost always are, at least this Marcus Rashford story line, if it indeed it does pan out that way would actually give us something to watch in the friendly against Germany on March 22nd.

At least the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania on March 26th should be compelling regardless.
