Ander Herrera and Phil Jones will miss tomorrow night’s UEFA Champions League group stage tie with PSV Eindhoven. Although their injuries are though to not be extremely serious in the long run.
Manager Louis van Gaal did say however that Wayne Rooney will return, as he described his illness as something that heals in days, not weeks. Striker Anthony Martial is back too. He missed Saturday’s victory at Watford with an ankle injury.
Defenders Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are out in the long term, prompting Van Gaal to say this about looking to buy a defender in January. So there’s six Man United players who might be missing right there.
Also injured is midfielder Michael Carrick, who picked up a knock while on international duty. Young striker James Wilson was deemed not have match fitness, as he’s plagued by a knee injury. Juan Mata picked up a knock in the weekend Premier League fixture, but he’ll be ready to go. The Man United injury roll call concludes with Marouane Fellaini, who actually hasn’t played in close to a month. There’s great news on this front- Van Gaal declared Fellaini fit to play at his prematch press conference a few hours ago.
United are looking to secure a spot in the Champions League knockout round with a victory.
