Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard is very close with forward Marcus Rashford and midfielder Paul Pogba. Whether it’s dabbing in celebration on the pitch or touring the sites while holiday, the trio have shown the public what a close knit group they are.
Lingard expressed his hopes that they translate that cohesiveness into winning a lot of trophies; just like a previous close knit group in United history did. Lingard referenced the storied class of ’92, who have a very special place in Old Trafford history.
David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes accomplished so much during their time together at United that a documentary was produced in 2013 chronicling their triumphs.
Lingard knows his club history and he hopes Rashford, Pogba and himself can repeat that.
Speaking to Football Focus (via BBC), Lingard said:
“It is all about making new history but you see the team with Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Gary Neville etc and you see what they achieved and it is only right that the likes of me, Marcus and Paul try and emulate that and win trophies.”
“They came through the ranks together, but my (youth) team went their separate ways so to have another home lad like Marcus in the team and with Paul having been here since 16, we just want to try and emulate what they did.”
Obviously, it’s a very high bar to clear, given all the trophies that the class of ’92 won, but you have to give props to Lingard for aiming so high. If you’re going to dream, be sure to dream big.
