Man United beat Everton 1-0 today to move ahead of West Ham United from sixth to fifth in the Premier League table. The Old Trafford outfit is now level on goal differential for the season with the Hammers, but two points clear in the standings. The Red Devils remain one point behind their noisy neighbors Manchester City for the all important fourth position.
The only goal of the match was scored by Anthony Martial, and you can watch the footage here at this link.
It was the 14th goal for Martial on the season, putting him ahead of Wayne Rooney for the team lead. More importantly, it was the 1000th all time scoring strike by Manchester United at Old Trafford. No team in Premier League history has scored that many times at home.
Arsenal are second on the list with 912, with Chelsea third on 896. Fittingly, it came on a day the club honored one of their all-time greats. The club unveiled the newly renamed Sir Bobby Charlton Stand at Old Trafford, honoring Man United ‘s top all time goal scorer.
Speaking about the renaming, Charlton said: “This is a great honour and I am very proud – for myself and my family – that the club has chosen to name the South Stand after me.”
“Manchester United has been such an important part of my life and I have so many wonderful memories of this Theatre of Dreams.”
