Manchester United Transfer Talk: Harry Maguire, Marcos Rojo

Let’s take a spin through the latest Manchester United transfer rumors and gossip making the rounds on the internet today. As always, until it’s actually an officially done deal, take the rumors with a grain of salt.

Leicester City central defender Harry Maguire was a huge hit for England during their run to the World Cup semifinal, and that’s stirred up a lot of interest from several teams, including United.

If there is going to be another addition to the roster at Old Trafford this summer it will likely be a central defender, and Maguire repeatedly comes up at the top of Mourinho’s wish list.

According to Leicester City manager Claude Puel however, Maguire is staying put; likewise for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, a reported Chelsea target.

“I think we can keep both players. It is crucial for us,” Puel said prior to tomorrow’s friendly against Valencia.

“We cannot lose players just a few days before the beginning of the season. We would not be able to find a solution and we cannot be behind. Kasper and Maguire are so valuable for us. It is important to maintain our structure, our squad and all our valuable players for the team.”

The Foxes have already parted ways with Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City, club record £60 million) this summer, so they’re not exactly keen on parting ways with any other star players.

This is a pretty big transfer window blow to United, who will now have to look elsewhere to try and fill the void. Other targets include Jerome Boateng and Toby Alderweireld.

While United really want to bring in a central defender, a current player at that position, Marcos Rojo, wants out. The centre back who was brought over from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 will soon see his United career end, according to reports. Despite his Argentina side being eliminated in the World Cup round of 16, Rojo hasn’t bothered to join up with United on their preseason tour.

That’s because he’s been given the all clear to move on to another team. Wolverhampton Wanderers emerged as the early favorites to land him, but now it’s said that Everton are in pole position.

Depending on which outlet you believe, a Rojo move to the Merseyside blues could be close.

According to the Telegraph, the Argentine’s £120,000-a-week salary could kibosh the deal. On the other hand, the Manchester Evening News is more optimistic about the transaction getting done, claiming Everton are “closing in” on sealing the deal.
