With Marouane Fellaini back, it’s now one returned, and waiting on three more: Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo in Manchester United’s the long term absentee player department.
Fellaini really is one of United’s most important players, and if they are going to stand any chance at all of catching Manchester City in the Premier League title race, they will need him to stay healthy. They will also need to get Paul Pogba, probably their most important player, back and in top form if the Red Devils are to regain the form they displayed in August and early to mid September.
Additionally, getting Zlatan Ibrahimovic back would be huge for the cause of trying to create a spark in the offense again. Romelu Lukaku has hit a slump since starting the season incredibly hot and the attack has been lacking lately.
United manager Jose Mourinho gave an injury update to the club’s official web channel. “We have the group of players which are the ones that we hope will recover as soon as possible,” he told MUTV (transcript via Manchester Evening News)
“They have to work every day but they are in a good position now. Pogba, Ibra, Rojo, Fellaini. They are in good positions so I think we can go into this part of the season, the Christmas period, and after, in a strong position.”
So there you go- it appears likely that United will get the trio back for the festive period.
I guess we’ll know for sure when United return to action in 12 days, hosting Newcastle in league play. Or perhaps we’ll get some answers when they visit FC Basel in UEFA Champions League group play four days later.
