Gareth Bale Pursuit is “Game Over,” Says Jose Mourinho

RIP Jose Mourinho’s stated public interest in pursuing the acquisition of Gareth Bale: August 7, 2017- August 8, 2017. FIN.

Just yesterday the Manchester United manager said that Real Madrid’s team sheet in the UEFA Super Cup would give a hint into whether or not Bale is in Zinedine Zidane’s plans this season. If he didn’t, and the Welshman was to be available he would “be waiting for him on the other side and fight with other coaches that would want him on their team, but if he plays, that is the best confirmation that he is wanted by the team.”

Bale not only played, he started and thus, Mourinho conceded the end of United’s pursuit in acquiring him.

“Clearly the club wants him, the manager wants him and he wants the club, so for me it’s game over,” Mourinho told BT Sport. “Even before it started, but it’s game over clearly because everybody knows he is going to stay.”

This comes just one day after Mourinho also became resigned to the fact that the club won’t be acquiring Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic as well. It then raises the question, if both of these guys are ruled out, then what new winger/attacking player could United actually get?

Gareth Bale himself did comment on the transfer rumors surrounding him today:

“I’m not listening to anything. I’m not reading anything, although people tell me bits and bobs,” he told BT.

When asked if Real came to him with the possibility that he could leave, Bale responded: “Not that I know of. I haven’t had any of those conversations.”
