Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie could be seeing the “downhil” portion of his career really coming into focus now. The Dutchman agreed to terms on a move to Fenerbahce in the summer, but now his new club has dropped him from the first team.
On the pitch he took the demotion well, coming off the bench in the 77th minute to score the game winner against Bursapor.
Off the pitch not so much.
Van Persie told Lig TV: “To be honest, I am not very happy at this moment.”
“I was not happy that I started on the bench. I am fully fit, physically very well and able to play for 90 minutes.”
“The only right answer I could give was with what I did: helping the team to get the victory.”
Since arriving at Fener he’s only played the full 90 minutes in one game. His game winning goal against Bursapor was just his second scoring strike of the season.
He’s just not a world class striker anymore, and he decline has been rapid.
