Last night brought the most exciting football we’ve seen from Liverpool since…well, certainly since the 2013-14 season probably. Liverpool Twitter lit up yesterday in a manner unlike any other since Jurgen Klopp took over. Liverpool FC was top trending internationally as the Reds came back from two goals down after ten minutes to achieve a victory that will go straight into club folklore.
The emotion of the moment even caused Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp to curse on live television in his post match interview.
Hours later the club learned their opponent for the semi-finals of Europe’s consolation bracket.
Liverpool will face Villarreal in the semifinals of the Europa League, while current tournament victors Sevilla have been drawn against Shakhtar Donetsk. LFC will travel to the Estadio El Madrigal to face the Yellow Submarine on April 28, with the return leg at Anfield seven days later.
Liverpool are the only side that’s still currently undefeated in any Euro competition this season and this is the furthest they’ve advanced in any European tournament since 2009-10. The Premier League club have won the competition on three occasions during its incarnation as the UEFA Cup, in 1972-73, 1975-76 and 2000-01.
