Have you seen the just released photo of Julie Johnston modeling the new United States Women’s National Team jersey? Well, by clicking over here you now have. Here’s the pic emailed out by US Soccer Communications minutes ago, suffixed by the following description in the press release:
A blue left-side stripe and red right-side stripe run the length of the shirt and matching white shorts. Expanding when a player is in motion, the stripes maximize ventilation and reveal a contrasting flash of underlying red and blue, respectively.
To align with the Olympic tournament’s uniform regulations, the U.S. Soccer Federation crest will be replaced by vibrant blue gloss “USA” lettering. Created using Light-Flex technology, it appears on the left chest of the shirt and right hem of the short.
In 2015, Julie Johnston had a major breakout year for country and a sophomore surge for club. The center back earned a World Cup Golden Ball nomination (finalist for World Cup MVP award), and went the distance in all eleven of her NWSL matches, helping the Chicago Red Stars defense to the third-fewest goals allowed among all nine squads.
Johnston also played every minute of the World Cup, up until the round of eight.
Julie Johnston, the 2014 NWSL Rookie of the Year, was also named the NWSL best XI team and a finalist for NWSL Defender of the Year.
The jersey will be available for purchase on US Soccer’s website starting July 23rd.
Across the homepage right now, you can see the USWNT promo featuring Johnston, her Red Stars teammate Christen Press and Carli Lloyd.
