Was this week the new rock bottom for Manchester United? Or can they sink even lower? Their chances of making it back into UEFA Champions League this year are pretty much non-existent now.
On the heels of a shocking 2-1 loss at Sunderland, their odds went from dreadful to extremely dreadful. The Black Cats are relegation fodder, residing in 19th place out of 20. Getting beat by them is beyond unacceptable.
A loss like this should be unfathomable, but the Red Devils have been finding new lows all season long. A prime example was Thursday, when they got beat by Danish minnows FC Midtjylland. Just when you think it won’t get worse, the bottom drops out.
It’s a no-brainer that Louis Van Gaal should be sacked if United don’t qualify for the Champions League. Handing him all that money to buy players with and they can’t even achieve a top four finish is unacceptable. He doesn’t deserve to be here for the third and final season of his contract.
The situation has gotten so much worse now at this point that you can almost start having warmer memories of the David Moyes era. (Joking, but you get the idea)
With no clear signal and instead just overall noise right now about which direction Manchester United will go regarding their managerial future, we’re all looking for indicators anywhere we can find them. This is your Sunday edition of “Louis van Gaal sacking/Jose Mourinho Coming watch.”
First a couple stories from the Sunday Express:
-“Former Old Trafford boss David Moyes has warned Manchester United not to become a “sacking club” by ending the reign of his troubled successor Louis van Gaal.”
–“Jose Mourinho has rejected an opportunity to return to Inter by telling the Italian club’s officials that he is hoping to soon become Manchester United’s new boss”
Yes, Inter Milan Director Bedy Moratti said that Mourinho is happy now because he’s set to join Manchester United. You can read more about that here at this link.
United have 41 points in 26 games. It marks the worst place United have resided at this point in of a season in Premier League history. That’s actually worse than under the one season disaster of David Moyes.
Louis van Gaal was supposed to be Manchester United’s savior, but the opposite has happened. Despite spending huge sums of money in the past two transfer windows under LVG, the Red Devils are enduring another mediocre campaign – and the stats don’t look good.
–According to the Mail in Sunday
“Louis van Gaal’s lame-duck tenure is now the talk of the Manchester United dressing room, with senior players keen to be given clarification over his future.”
-The Daily Star on Sunday claims:
“Louis van Gaal will be dismissed if United lose to Shrewsbury in the FA Cup on Monday.”
“Jose Mourinho, widely tipped to takeover from Louis van Gaal, is keen for Wayne Rooney to help him re-build a United side who have gone into decline since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.”
-Finally in the Sunday Mirror, the publication claims:
“Manchester United still see Ryan Giggs as the next manager amidst the ongoing Jose Mourinho speculation.”
