Ross Barkley Backs Out of Chelsea FC Move During Examination

While the Chelsea FC summer transfer window was a bit of mixed bag heading into deadline week, the final 48 hours are looking disastrous right now. The past couple of days have seen:

-Everton defender Ross Barkley come to Chelsea, only to change his mind during his medical

-Miss out on a primary target in Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente, who is reportedly headed to Tottenham Hotspur instead

–Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cancel his move to Chelsea, to instead join Liverpool.

Don’t forget that Manchester United hijacked their Romelu Lukaku pursuit back in July as well. So what exactly is going on at Stamford Bridge?

Regarding Barkley, Everton Owner Farhad Moshiri revealed that a £35 million deal was struck between the two clubs, but Barkley then had a change of heart. The defender, who is often finding himself outside the Toffees’ best XI, and apparently not completely over a hamstring injury, got cold feet, did an about face, performed a 180 (pick your catch phrase) during his Chelsea examination.

“After the medical we heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley’s agent, that he had changed his mind and wanted to reconsider his position during the January window — that is the latest,” Moshiri told Sky Sports.

“He is currently injured so I think technically he will be with us because he is under contract for another year so it is a big surprise but that is football.”

Ross Barkley will reportedly re-examine his options in January.

Chelsea have seen a series of failures this transfer window, but they did sign Torino right back Davide Zappacosta for about £23 million on deadline day. Also, midfielder Danny Drinkwater is supposedly on his way in a £35m deal from Leicester City.
