AC Milan technical director Leonardo said over the weekend that the club is just not interested in the idea of potentially bringing back striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The aging Swede wasn’t able to lead his L.A. Galaxy to the Major League Soccer postseason, and he could have been had on a loan deal to come back to Milan, but it’s just not in the cards.
Leonardo did make it known though that his club is in the market for both a new forward and midfielder. In terms of the attacking player, once again there’s a Manchester United theme at work, as Marcus Rashford is reportedly in the Serie A side’s cross-hairs.
La Gazzetta dello Sport, via TUTTOmercatoWEB, claims that Marcus Rashford and Liverpool’s Divock Origi are on Milan’s radar as the fallback options. Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella, who might be available on a free as he’s out of contract, is the number one option right now. Rashford has started only half of United’s Premier League contests this season, and he may be looking to find a destination with regular first team football.
Whether or not United let him go probably depends on what happens with fellow young attacking player Anthony Martial, whose long term future at the club is still uncertain. Old Trafford may be open parting ways with one, but certainly not both.
